Kadena
Kadena (KDA) — a reference card for a crypto project: what the product does and how verifiable the project’s key claims are; also — alignment with the Decentralized AI thesis (DecAI Fit).
Kadena — an Infra | L1 blockchain platform with smart contracts (Chainweb PoW + the Pact language), native network coin (symbol: KDA).
Disclaimer
Important: this page is a reference overview of the project. Within DecAIHub, we separately record a verification based on open sources within the AI thesis (what is real AI/onchain/why a token, and which sources this is based on).
This is not financial advice and not a recommendation to buy/sell/hold any asset. We do not assess price, returns, or entry/exit timing.
Conclusions are based on publicly available materials found as of the verification date. The absence of confirmation does not imply the absence of the technology.
TL;DR (for readers who are not into AI)
- What it is: an L1 blockchain with smart contracts (Pact) and a parallel PoW architecture (Chainweb) for increased throughput.
- Who it’s for: dApp developers and users who need a PoW L1 with smart contracts.
- Why onchain/token: KDA is the native coin, issued via mining and used as the economic incentive for network security.
How it works (very briefly)
- The user does: sends transactions / calls Pact smart contracts.
- The system does: validates and includes transactions in blocks in the Chainweb PoW network (parallel “braided chains”).
- The user gets: confirmed transfers/smart contract calls.
- Where the blockchain is: accounting of state and contract execution — onchain.
- Token role: KDA is issued to miners (security budget) and serves as the native unit of value of the network.

General project overview
Kadena is an L1 blockchain that combines smart contracts in the Pact language and the Chainweb PoW architecture (parallel chains, “braided chains”) to scale throughput and confirmations without abandoning the PoW security model. The project’s summary whitepaper describes the goals: high throughput, “human readable” smart contracts, formal verification (Z3) and managed contract upgrades via the built‑in Pact governance model.
Features/modules
- Chainweb: a parallel PoW architecture that combines many chains into a single network.
- Pact: a smart contract language with an emphasis on readability, security and formal verification.
- SPV / cross-chain transfers: a mechanism for transferring liquidity between chains via SPV (described in the Chainweb paper).
Typical scenarios
- Scenario 1: a user sends a transaction on the Kadena network → receives confirmation and a change of balance/state.
- Scenario 2: a developer deploys and calls a Pact contract → gets onchain execution of the logic.
Getting started (wallet/network)
- What you need: a wallet/account in the Kadena ecosystem.
- Network/chain: Kadena mainnet.
- Fees: native network fees (paid in KDA).
Architecture/tech (non‑AI)
- Components: Chainweb nodes/miners, the Pact runtime for smart contracts, clients/wallets and the explorer.
- Participant roles: users, developers, miners/node operators.
- Where logic runs: L1 onchain (execution of Pact contracts and accounting of state).
Token/economics (expanded, no forecasts)
- Issuance (Tier‑1): the token economics post describes that the total issuance is 1B; the main emission goes through mining and decreases over time.
- Distribution (Tier‑1): mining share 700M; platform share 200M; investors/strategic/contributors 90M; 10M burned at launch; “total coins in economy: 990M”.
- Bug bounty (Tier‑1): an Immunefi program is listed in links_*.

AI component of the project
- What is real AI here? An AI component is not claimed as part of the product in the Tier‑1 materials (this is an L1 blockchain).
- What is truly onchain? PoW consensus and the execution of smart contracts (Pact) take place onchain; Chainweb describes multi‑chain PoW for throughput.
- Why is a token needed? KDA is the native coin of the network, issued to miners and serving as the economic incentive for security.
- Red flags (based on the information found): AI‑washing is not relevant; any check of “AI” links in marketing (if they appear) must be confirmed by Tier‑1.

Onchain necessity
OC_1 — contracts/addresses/chain (1/0)
- OC_1 (decision): 1
- Chain: Kadena mainnet (Chainweb)
- Addresses/identifiers: — (native coin)
- Evidence: Tier‑1 — https://explorer.chainweb.com/mainnet ; https://www.kadena.io/whitepapers

- Conflict note (if any): —
OC_2 — onchain beyond just a token (1/0)
- OC_2 (decision): 1
- What useful logic is onchain: Pact smart contracts and cross‑chain SPV transfers in Chainweb are described as part of the protocol.
- Evidence: Tier‑1 — https://cdn.sanity.io/files/agrhq0bu/production/768de3e4b9510c9e8a7fbb25167f41a87a4f405a.pdf ; https://cdn.sanity.io/files/agrhq0bu/production/1e4f5f6b99d1cb0701432df6e23e9bbbf46ea363.pdf
