Agoras (Tau)

Agoras (AGRS) / Tau Net — a reference card for a crypto project: what the product does and how verifiable the project’s key claims are; also — alignment with the Decentralized AI thesis (DecAI Fit).

Agoras — an Infra | AI/Knowledge project: an ERC‑20 token on Ethereum tied to the Tau‑Chain concept (a logic‑oriented discussion/knowledge platform).

Disclaimer

Important: this page is a reference overview of the project. Within DecAIHub, we separately record a verification based on open sources within the AI thesis (what is real AI/onchain/why a token, and which sources this is based on).
This is not financial advice and not a recommendation to buy/sell/hold any asset. We do not assess price, returns, or entry/exit timing.
Conclusions are based on publicly available materials found as of the verification date. The absence of confirmation does not imply the absence of the technology.

TL;DR (for readers who are not into AI)

  • What it is: AGRS — an ERC‑20 token described in the whitepaper as the “currency of the Tau economy” (a knowledge/resource economy); Tau‑Chain is described as a p2p system for scalable discussions and self‑amendment of rules.
  • Who it’s for: developers/community members interested in Tau Language / the “internet of languages” ideas and the knowledge economy.
  • Why onchain/token: onchain here is confirmed at the level of the AGRS token on Ethereum; the practical necessity of a blockchain for “Tau‑Chain as a network” is not confirmed in Tier‑1 by artifacts beyond the token.
  • What you can actually touch (Tier‑1): the whitepaper (description of the idea) + the AGRS token contract on Etherscan + the tau-lang GitHub.

How it works (very briefly)

  1. The user does: reads/discusses Tau materials, tries Tau Language (the repository), holds/transfers AGRS.
  2. The system does (per the whitepaper): a platform for discussions/formalization of knowledge with machine support and self‑amending mechanisms is envisaged.
  3. The user gets: the AGRS token as an onchain asset; the rest of the product part is at the level of the concept/implementations of Tau Language.
  4. Where the blockchain is: the AGRS token exists onchain on Ethereum (ERC‑20).
  5. Token role: in the whitepaper, the token is described as the currency of the “Tau economy” (payment for knowledge/resources), but a working onchain economy protocol is not confirmed in this card.

General project overview

In the Tier‑1 whitepaper (2020), Tau is described as a p2p system for scalable discussions and decision‑making, based on the “Human‑Machine‑Human Communication” paradigm and on formal logics/languages (TML, “internet of languages”). In the same document, Agoras is described as an economy/currency meant to support a “knowledge economy” (payment for knowledge, resources, etc.).

At the same time, within this card, the confirmed onchain artifact is the ERC‑20 token AGRS on Ethereum. The implementation of “Tau‑Chain” as a separate network and its onchain part beyond the token were not confirmed by addresses/explorers within the current Tier‑1 links.

Features/modules

  • Tau whitepaper concept: self‑amending discussions/rules, a logic‑oriented approach.
  • Tau Language (repo): implementation of the language/tools (per GitHub).
  • Agoras (AGRS): an ERC‑20 token described as the “currency of Tau economy”.
  • Bug bounty (Tau Language): incentivizing the search for bugs in the language (forum/issue tracker).

Typical scenarios

  • Scenario 1: a user reads the whitepaper/materials → forms an understanding of the Tau idea → discusses it in community channels.
  • Scenario 2: a developer installs/builds tau-lang → tries the language/tools → reports bugs (including within the bug bounty).
  • Scenario 3: a holder transfers/holds AGRS → uses it as a liquid onchain asset (the utility “inside the Tau economy” is not confirmed by a working product).

Getting started (wallet/network)

  • What you need: an Ethereum wallet for AGRS; for development — the tau-lang GitHub repository.
  • Network/chain: Ethereum mainnet (ERC‑20).
  • Fees: Ethereum fees for transfers/approve; offchain use of the language — without onchain fees.

Architecture/tech (non‑AI)

  • Components (confirmed): the AGRS ERC‑20 contract on Ethereum; the tau-lang repository (tools/language).
  • Components (as claimed in the whitepaper): the Tau‑Chain p2p network for discussions/rules, a knowledge base.
  • Participant roles: token holders, language developers, the community.
  • Where logic runs: token transfers — onchain (Ethereum); everything else — offchain (language/discussions/network concept).
  • Dependencies: Ethereum as the L1 for the token; GitHub as the source of the language code.

Token/economics (expanded, no forecasts)

  • Token utility (claimed): in the whitepaper, AGRS is described as the currency of the Tau economy (payment for knowledge/resources).
  • What is confirmed onchain: the token exists on Ethereum and has a max total supply of 42,000,000 on the token page; the contract code contains the owner operations pause/unpause, mint, addLock/removeLock.
  • Who pays fees: Ethereum users when they transfer/approve AGRS.
  • Issuance/burn: the contract allows mint (owner‑only), i.e. the supply is not strictly fixed at the code level.
  • Incentive mechanisms: there are no onchain incentives of the “staking/slashing” kind in the token contract.

Governance

  • Who makes decisions: for the token contract — the owner (centralized admin); for the development of the language — via GitHub/the community.
  • How protocol parameters change: the owner can perform the administrative functions of the contract (pause/mint/locks, etc.).
  • Where: the tau-lang GitHub repository, the Tau forum.
  • Keys/multisig: a multisig/timelock is not confirmed by Tier‑1 sources.

Security and incidents

  • Audits: —.
  • Bug bounty: there is a public discussion of a bug bounty for Tau Language (see links_*).
  • Incidents: —.
  • Threat model: centralized owner powers in the token contract (pause/mint/lock); a mismatch between the “max supply on the page” and the presence of mint() in the code.

Project status and timeline

  • Current status: the AGRS token — on Ethereum mainnet; Tau Language — under development (releases on GitHub).
  • Key releases/milestones: tau-lang releases on GitHub (see links_*).
  • Roadmap: —.

Ecosystem/integrations

  • Integrations: an ERC‑20 in the Ethereum ecosystem (wallets/DEXes, etc. — outside the scope of this card); dev tools via GitHub.
  • Partners: —.
  • Where it’s actually used: the onchain life of the token is confirmed; the practical use of a “knowledge economy on Tau” requires separate confirmations.

AI component of the project

  • What is real AI here? the whitepaper discusses machine‑supported discussions/formalization of knowledge, but a working AI system/metrics are not confirmed.
  • What is truly onchain? the ERC‑20 token AGRS on Ethereum and its code (including the owner functions).
  • Why is a token needed? claimed as the currency of the “Tau economy”; the actual necessity of the token for a working protocol beyond the token is not proven in this card.
  • Red flags (based on the information found): AI‑washing (many conceptual promises without demos/metrics), onchain‑washing (if Tau‑Chain is positioned as a network but only the token is confirmed), token‑washing (a utility is claimed, but without confirmation of a working economy).
